So, I’m seeing a ton of rave reviews regarding these Mosaic weighted blankets. I had to dig deeper and I found out that Mosaics are specially designed to be 8-12% of your body weight. We’re referring to the same type of low-tech sensory hacks that give calm to those that experience clinical PTSD, anxiety, and within the spectrum of autism. Essentially, the idea is to give you the feeling of being hugged or held. So all the warm and fuzzy feelings you get from this type of sensory input is replicated through an evenly distributed weighted blanket. Natural chemicals in our body regulate our mood and overall sense of calm by helping us to settle down from stressful or anxious situations, relax faster and sleep deeper eventually. Sounds like it’s worth a shot to me, so I’m giving it a shot for this holiday season and bought myself one.
When under the blanket, you experience that great feeling of being hugged, cuddled or swaddled which is as soothing for adults as it is for children.
Undoubtedly, the nostalgia of being a child plays its part and for this reason I’d personally pay unreasonable amounts. But at about $150 for the blanket that can last years and help me sleep. I’m in.
But beware, not all are created equally and only a few are designed for breathability. Like any good idea, tons of brands pop up to offer inferior products for a great idea. Fortunately Mosaic is based here in Austin, TX and they manufacture here as well. I’ve been seeing some negative reviews based on the products manufactured in China. The Mosaic blanket seems to be one of the most relevant early adapter to the trend and we absolutely love the quality and variety they offer.
I recently went to Minnesota for a wedding and the 50 degree weather made me wish I had my Mosaic blanket with me. If you are at all interested I suggest giving it a try, they offer a variety of products that you can ease into (pun intended).
